Playwright | Educator | Actor | Director

Though Jenny Kreyl Leibowitz has been a writer since childhood, her playwrighting career began in 2002 when she wrote her very first full-length play Crystal Weeds.  She became an internationally produced playwright in May of 2007 when Harris Superman was produced by the NovaStage Theatre Company of Cambridge, Ontario.  After receiving critical acclaim, NovaStage's production toured Philadelphia in January of 2008.

A recipient of multiple playwrighting grants from the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, Jenny’s plays have also been produced at Philadelphia's Adrienne Theatre, The Star Theater of Mercersburg, Wilson College, Coatesville Cultural Society and Gettysburg College Theater Department.  Crystal Weeds was a finalist in the 2003 American Theatre Co-Op National Play Competition.

Jenny is also an accomplished actor and director.  She proudly directed the United States premiere of Roald Dahl’s “Goldilocks.” Her favorite acting roles include “Jo” in Little Women, “Hermia” in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “Abby” in the original musical Abby Victoria, “Mary” in Crystal Weeds, and “The Woman” in Harris Superman.  Her acting career has included performances ranging from film work to regional theatre and Off-Off-Broadway in New York City. Jenny’s performance as Nettie in Villanova Theatre’s 2012 production of Carousel earned rave reviews. Talkin’ Broadway claimed her role was “exceptionally well sung” and Stage Magazine called her a “standout,” acknowledging “...the dynamic range and powerful belt of Jenny Kreyl Leibowitz’s kindhearted Nettie in familiar tunes ‘June is Bustin’ Out All Over’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’” Jenny recently performed as a featured actor with the Chester County Pops in their dramatized orchestral piece, “Ellis Island.”

Jenny holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Temple University, a Master of Education from Arcadia University, and a Master of Arts in Theatre from Villanova University.  She is an adjunct professor of Theatre and English at Albright College and also currently serves as Director of the Drama Department at Renaissance Academy in suburban Philadelphia, where she currently resides.

Jenny began writing plays because she felt the fervent desire to both express herself and to create unique roles not yet created for dynamic actors who wish to empower themselves on the stage.
