Local playwright's drama opens

Written and directed by Jenny Kreyl Leibowitz of Chambersburg, Pa., "Crystal Weeds" is a drama that imagines how legendary movie actresses Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Dorothy Lamour and Natalie Wood may have interacted in present day New York.

The play was made possible by a grant from Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. The premiere will be at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 25, at Warfield Hall at Wilson College in Chambersburg.

The play also will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27. Tickets cost $5 each and will be available at the door.

"Crystal Weeds" is a finalist in the American Theatre Co-op National Playwrighting Contest and has been selected as a workshop production for February 2004 by the Eternal Spiral Project in Philadelphia.
